The trick of UX copywriting

A designer’s #1 job is to help solve a problem. It’s to help a person do something more simply without having to overthink it.

When acting as a UX copywriter, I get to do the cool trick of creating a user experience that is easy, simple, and effective. The focus is not just on selling a product and convincing someone of an idea, but it’s to take a person on that journey in a way that feels almost too easy.

With this kind of writing, I determine success by how obvious the end result is. If someone looks at it and thinks “that took you an hour? I could have done that in 2 minutes” then it’s the just right thing. It should feel natural, inevitable, and like the only option there ever could be.
